"Life is like gathering berries into an apron with a hole. Why do we keep on? Because the berries are beautiful, and we must eat to survive." --Elizabeth Berg
For those beautiful berries and the pleasure of eating them fresh throughout summer, we're spending the morning handbuilding ceramic bowls, slotted or perforated, and ideal for rinsing summer fruit.
We're featuring berries (because summer), but these ceramic colanders serve a range of uses, from rinsing berries to draining pasta to perfect countertop storage for garlic or shallots. Functional and beautiful, your bowl is sure to find a place to live on your counter or table.
Join us on Sunday, May 31, at Hartlot Happening for a morning of handbuilding with clay.
We'll work through the morning at a comfortable pace with guidance at every step. A seasonal lunch follows, planned and prepared by your hosts: Lora Taub of Hartlot Happening, Becky Muir of Schoolhouse Farms and Mike Foster of Milkhouse Roastery. A delicious end to a slow, creative morning, featuring -- of course -- berries.
What to Expect
In this workshop, you'll learn the fundamental techniques of hand building with clay, including rolling a clay slab and transforming it into a utilitarian and expressive form. Participants will gain experience using templates, molds, and altering techniques to make forms that serve a purpose and express personality. All materials and tools are provided and the small workshop size ensures each participant receives the personal hands-on attention needed to make the process and the object enjoyable.
Your bowl will be bisque fired, glazed in a color of your choice, and fired again. Finished pieces will be ready for pickup at Hartlot Happening approximately three weeks after the workshop.
