Set along a quiet country road just five minutes from the Village of Skaneateles, Hartlot Happening is a singular Finger Lakes wedding and event venue with a refined, modern-rustic point of view. Thoughtfully crafted indoor and outdoor spaces unfold across the historic industrial property, reimagined for weddings, retreats, and intimate gatherings. The warmth and charm of timeworn concrete buildings, together with contemporary steel-and-glass architecture create a quietly sophisticated Central New York setting.

 

The name Hartlot Happening honors two distinct moments in New York history.

 

First, the venue sits on what was historically known as Hart's Lot, a 19th-century hamlet named for the early settler Josiah Hart who owned the land. It became a vibrant railroad junction connecting the region's farms, industry, and travelers. A place where people connected.

 

Second, a more radical moment: the avant-garde "happenings" of 1950s and '60s New York City. Rejecting the formal constraints of traditional galleries and museums, these improvisational gatherings popped up in lofts, storefronts, and courtyards where artists, musicians, and poets collaborated spontaneously. They championed experience over performance and authenticity over trendy. What mattered were the unrepeatable moments that transpire when creative people gather.

 

Both legacies inspire Hartlot Happening, a venue that celebrates place, connection, and the art of authentic gathering.

As craftspeople—a metal fabricator and a potter—we renovated this historic property ourselves, by hand. That same commitment to authenticity, craft, and creative collaboration purposefully shapes every celebration that happens here.
